Book review: Flourishing After Adversity by Laura Mangum Broome

Life is hard.
It’ll slap you around. When it does, you can choose to get bitter or better. A friend launched a book this week about transforming pain into purpose.
Here’s my book review of Flourishing After Adversity by Laura Mangum Broome.
About the author
I’ve known Laura for about two years.
I chat with her and another friend for about 1–2 hours each week via zoom. We share how our online businesses are going, laugh at ourselves, and encourage each other.
Laura always encourages others.
She’s this website’s number one fan. She responds to my weekly newsletter almost every week. Without fail, she lets me know what impact each blog post has had on her, and encourages me to keep writing.
She says she’s not a good writer.
But I don’t believe her. She’s written a book (without the help of AI). And it’s great.
About the book
There’s a lot I like about Laura’s book, but I’ll only mention a few.
Laura starts and ends the main chapters with her story. She’s no stranger to adversity. We get to peek over her shoulder and benefit from the lessons she’s learned and the wisdom she’s gained.
Her framework and insights draw from Christian faith and positive psychology.
The main chapters end with questions for reflection and application. While each section includes a case study. This mix of theory, practice, and vignettes packs a punch,
Laura’s book is inspiring, practical, and powerful.
I know I’ll return to this book often and learn something new each time I do. If you hurry, you can grab a copy at the low introductory prices.
