If It Ain’t Broke, Don’t Fix It

You know the feeling.
Something bright and shiny captures your eye. Other’s grab it, benefit from it, and declare it’ll do the same for you. So you fall down the rabbit hole, only to discover …
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
Bright and shiny things
I launched Lazy Guy eight months ago.
I aimed to publish a blog post and a newsletter each week. And I did. Except for the odd hiccup.
Could AI make me more effective and efficient?
AI content creation tools
AI can help bloggers:
- Research keywords;
- Brainstorm content ideas;
- Generate topics;
- Produce long-form content
- Provide suggestions to elevate your writing;
- Correct your spelling and grammar;
- Optimise content for search engines; and
- Check for plagiarism.
This saves time and energy.
A square peg in a round hole
But AI didn’t make me more effective or efficient.
I like Shortform’s 1-page summaries. They’re the right size for me to decide if I want to read the book. The AI content creation tools I tried gave me so much data, I felt like I was wading through a politician’s speech. I went overboard, gathering AI-generated information.
Translation: AI helped me procrastinate, not publish.
I got caught in a loop. Instead of writing about writer’s block, perfectionism and procrastination, I experienced it. For three weeks.
I realise my situation is unique.
I adopt a persona when writing Lazy Guy blog posts. I’m not interested producing high-quality, long-form content for SEO. I’d rather please my audience.
I don’t need AI to write short blog posts.
I’ve already developed a system that works for me. One that conquers writer’s block, perfectionism and procrastination. I just needed to go through this experience to remember that.
