Being Flexible Makes My Meal Times Easier

Three weeks ago, I wrote about one step I take to lose weight, spend less and save time.
Last week, I changed my mind and made a small tweak.
Being flexible makes my meal times easier.
The tweak
I still cut my dinner in half. But now I eat the other half for breakfast and enjoy my favourite cereal for lunch.
The rationale
- Dinner: Cutting dinner in half ensures I’m not eating lots before going to bed.
- Breakfast: Having half of my dinner for breakfast means I no longer pack lunch. I reheat my meal at home and enjoy a hot meal before I leave for work. It fulls me up, so I don’t snack before lunch.
- Lunch: I get 45 minutes for lunch. Pouring cereal into a bowl and adding milk is a lot faster than cooking or reheating a meal. No more waiting to use the toasted sandwich maker or microwave. The biggest box of cereal lasts me 6–8 weeks and costs about the same as one bought lunch.
Reflection
This system works for me.
I acknowledge it isn’t for everyone. Some people are put off by eating half of their dinner for breakfast. When I feel that way, I keep things simple:
- Eggs on toast during summer
- Soup and bread during winter
The key is being flexible, experimenting and having fun.
