Frustrated, defeated and overwhelmed?

Me too. The current pace of life yanks me in two directions. I’m either running around like a chicken with its head cut off or slowly rotting like a couch potato.

But I recently discovered a way out of this madness.

The answer was in my hand. Three simple buttons on my remote have started to free me from overwhelm. Hopefully, they’ll do the same for you.

1. Pause

Catch your breath
Catch your breath

I often get caught up in the hectic rush of modern daily life.

The alarm clock screams at me. I gulp down some caffeine. And before I know it, I’ve hit automatic pilot … losing a part of myself in the process.

The pause button gives me another option. It reminds me to:

  • catch my breath, and
  • cut myself some slack.

As I do so, I discover the second button.

2. Back

Take a step back
Take a step back

This button lets me take a step back and shift perspectives.

From this position, I can:

  • create some distance between myself and what’s going on inside me, and
  • recognise I’m not the thoughts, feelings, and sensations I experience, I’m the experiencer.

This creates opportunities to tap the third button.

3. Forward

Make progress on what matters most
Make progress on what matters most

I’m still yanked between apathetic inactivity and autopilot.

But in the midst of all that, I’m slowly learning to press the third button more often.

Doing so, lets me:

  • connect with what matters most to me, and
  • act on those areas of my life.
